CH Murphy/Clark Ullman
A combination of two companies, C H Murphy|Clark-Ullman, Inc. represents over 125 years of experience in industrial boiler and furnace maintenance. Full time Engineering and Drafting staff utilize the latest in Mechanical and Thermal Design Software, as well as Computer Aided Drafting software. Full time Quality Control and Safety departments ensure that all projects are completed correctly on time and in the safest way possible. Our safety record is among the best in the industry.
Our warehouses are stocked with the most commonly used tube, plate, and refractory materials for emergency repairs of industrial furnaces, boilers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels. For more specialized parts, our cooperative arrangements with key suppliers allow us to obtain the needed materials quickly, when time is crucial.

DSU Peterbilt & GM Truck, Inc.
When Diesel Service Unit (DSU) opened in 1945, we didn’t have much in the way of assets. In fact, our first shop was set up under a tarp hung from a telephone pole. Aside from fresh Oregon air, about all we could offer our early customers was the 30 years combined experience on trucks and diesel engines of our three young mechanics.
Today, DSU sells Peterbilt, GMC, and Isuzu trucks, as well as parts for all makes. Our service technicians are well trained by each of the manufacturers and have years of experience.
Our employees enjoy excellent benefits that are the talk of the industry. DSU’s philosophy is to promote from within. Most are long-term employees with an average of over 11 years work experience. Now, with approximately 200 employees, we feel we are keeping up with the founders’ idea of treating customers and their needs as if we were customers too. E.E. Schenck Company
E.E. Schenck Company is one of the oldest wholesale distributors, converters and jobbers of textiles in the United States. The company, founded in 1921, has evolved from an importer of silks to a top supplier of all types of fabrics for apparel, utility, crafts and especially quilting with over 35,000 different items from which to select.
Twice a year, every March and September, we hold an open house trade show called TRENDS at our Portland headquarters on Swan Island. The three-day weekend event includes instructional classes, guest speakers, demonstrations, previews of upcoming Quilt Market fabric line introductions, numerous reduced price specials, as well as food, entertainment and much more.
Our goal is to provide the very best service and products to customers world wide with our two warehouse locations in Portland and Los Angeles.
EFI Recycling has been serving the Portland area’s commercial recycling needs since 2001, and is proud to be one of the largest locally owned and operated recycling companies in the Northwest. EFI specializes in recycling paper, corrugated cardboard, plastic film, newspaper and magazines. We are a family run industrial laundry in Portland specializing in rental logo mats and restroom products. Mel Shulevitz founded the company in 1976. At that time, there was no one in the industry marketing such a concept.
Today, led by the next generation of the Shulevitz family, Indoor Billboard continues to be a recognized national leader in the field and a trailblazer in the industry.
Lucky Distributing/BCS America
Lucky Distributing, Inc. is part of a successful, 70 year old, family-owned business. Over the years, Lucky has grown significantly and is organized operationally into four distinct divisions: BCS America, Hearth & Home, Outdoor Power Equipment, and Energy Wise.
BCS America distributes two-wheel tractors with interchangeable attachments throughout North America. Founded in 1935 by Chris Maletis Senior, Maletis Beverage is a locally owned and operated distributor of domestic, craft and import beers. The company also distributes a world-renowned portfolio of cider, wine, champagne, mead and sake, as well as an extensive portfolio of non-alcoholic products.
Since 2000, Rob Maletis has continued to grow Maletis Beverage while also keeping the company true to the principles established by his grandfather and father. Under his guidance, Maletis Beverage has grown into one of the largest beverage distributors in the Pacific Northwest, leading the industry in service, quality products and customer satisfaction.
Maletis Beverage employs approximately 300 of the finest people in the beverage industry that uphold the company’s mission statement: “Leading the industry with quality products, teamwork and customer satisfaction.”
The MetroPaint facility is operated by Metro, the regional government. Leftover latex paint is collected all across Oregon and brought to MetroPaint for recycling. Cans of leftover paint are opened, examined, sorted by color, and then poured into tanks for processing. Batches of paint are stirred and filtered, additives are added, the color is adjusted, and quality tests are conducted to ensure a high quality final product. In 1946, Marvin “Van” Van Allen told his future wife, Betty, that someday he would own his own paper box plant. Their dream was realized in 1953.

Portland Community College – Cascade Campus
Located in North Portland, Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus is known for its quality educational programs and close connections with neighborhood communities.
In the fall of 2014, the Cascade Campus will expand to include a workforce training center on Swan Island. The Swan Island center will be home to a variety of career and technical programs, including PCC Pre-Apprenticeship, Facilities Maintenance Technology and Electrical Trades.

Created by Portland voters in 1958, the Portland Development Commission (PDC) helps make Portland one of America’s most livable cities. Port of Portland
Established in 1891 by the Oregon Legislature, the Port of Portland owns four marine terminals, three airports (Portland International, Hillsboro, and Troutdale) and five industrial parks—the oldest being Swan Island where, in 1927, the Port’s first airport was dedicated by Charles Lindbergh. The Port has sold or continues to lease many job-producing sites on Swan Island. The mission of the Port is to enhance the region’s economy and quality of life by providing efficient cargo and air passenger access to national and global markets.
Portland Screw Company
Portland Screw Company is a local family-owned fastener company. We service all industries, becoming true partners with our customers. The company relocated to Swan Island in 1970 after construction of our current site. The central location, easy access for customers and vendors, and site amenities, keep Portland Screw Company a vital member of the Swan Island Community.

Stack Heat Treaters opened on January 9, 1984 and we changed our name to Stack Metallurgical Services Inc. in 1995. We started out with a couple of atmosphere furnaces and companion draws. Since then, we have grown into the most versatile provider of heat treating services in the Pacific Northwest.

US Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard is one of the five armed forces of the United States and the only military organization within the Department of Homeland Security. The Marine Safety Unit Portland, located on Swan Island, is part of the 13th Coast Guard District. Our area of responsibility extends from the Salmon and Snake Rivers in eastern Idaho down the Columbia River to coastal Oregon and Washington.
Our legacy dates back a century with historic shipyards like Todd Pacific, Kaiser and Cascade General. Walter E. Nelson
Founded in 1945, the Walter E. Nelson Company has become one of the Pacific Northwest’s Premiere Janitorial and Paper Supply Distribution Networks. While home on leave from the navy during World War II, Walter E. Nelson started the company as I & I Supply. After the war, Walter and Carl Roes were its first employees and Walter’s father, Emil, made deliveries part time. The name of the company was later changed to the Walter E. Nelson Co.
With much growth over the years, the company acquired property on Swan Island in 1995 and built a state of the art corporate office and warehouse facility. Since that time, branches were opened in Klamath Falls, North Bend, Seattle, Bend, Walla Walla, Spokane, Astoria and Eugene.
The corporate facility recently expanded with the acquisition of a 47,000 square foot building directly behind the existing warehouse. Construction will soon begin on a receiving dock facility linking the two buildings. The company currently employs over 400 employees.
