After almost two years of construction, Daimler Trucks North America officially opened the doors of its new corporate headquarters on Swan Island last week. The 268,000 square-foot nine story office building cost $150 million dollars to build and will house over 1,000 employees.
Designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the building will rank among the top five percent of energy-efficient structures. Input was sought from DTNA employees to assist with the design of the workspaces, conference rooms, fitness center and bike storage area. “As one of Portland’s largest employers, we will now have a state-of-the-art work environment to inspire the great talent in our organization and to continue contributing to long-term prosperity in Portland,” said DTNA President and CEO Martin Daum in a press release.
The project also included connecting the two parts of the public Willamette Greenway Trail that had historically been separated by the Ports O’Call buildings, building a parking garage with several electric vehicle charging stations and creating a landscaped surface parking lot across from the headquarters building.
